things we’re leaving in 2021…

Updated: Jan 24, 2022

Talk about EXHAUSTING! This year has definitely been one for the history books and I don’t know about anyone else, but I am ready for it to be over with.

2021 was filled with chaos, chaos… and more chaos, and as we get ready to close the year and enter 2022, what better than to take some time and reflect on this year?

More specifically, things that I am TIRED of and going into the new year, NEVER wanna see again, beginning with:

1. CANCEL CULTURE:

This is a very popular opinion, and rightfully so. Going into 2022, I’m ready for cancel culture to die. I could make an ENTIRE post about everything wrong with cancel culture, but to hit on some key points:

  • Selective Outrage: Cancel culture simply picks and chooses who to cancel. If cancel culture was really what it says it was, half of the entertainment industry would be “cancelled.” Everyone is so quick to cancel people they don’t like but are quite when it comes to the people they do like.

  • Fake: To simply put it, cancel culture doesn’t exist and isn’t a thing. How many people has cancel culture “cancelled“ that are still flourishing in their careers? Cancel culture only works if you allow it to work. Deny it and keep going about your business, and you’ll be fine.

  • Excessiveness: Cancel culture does too much and I know I’m not the only person who feels this way. Every little thing someone does, the internet is really to pounce on them. There are so many unnecessary cancellations in cancel culture, that the people who really deserve to be “cancelled“ aren’t.

  • Hypocrisy: Most of the people who participate in cancel culture, do the same things they try and cancel others for. One day this person is cancelled and the next day y’all love them again. It’s tiring.

2. MESH FACE MASKS:

Do y’all wanna die? Like… do y’all want the Grim Reaper to visit y’all? I just don’t understand the logic behind this. I don’t even think I need to elaborate any further on this one. Just…… no.

3. THE TERM “NARCISSIST“:

I don’t know what it is with everyone labeling everyone a narcissist. This term has been so overused that it’s literally beginning to downplay true narcissism.

I feel like a lot of people don’t know that Narcissist Personality Disorder (NPD) is RARE. Less than 200,000 cases a year according to Mayo Clinic, so when people start calling everybody a narcissist, the math doesn’t add up.

Not everyone who did you wrong in your life was a narcissist, so going into 2022, let’s leave behind the feeling that one google search gives you a PhD in psychology.

4. HYPING UP WHITE PEOPLE FOR DOING THE BARE MINIMUM:

This may sound obvious, but you’d be surprise. You’d be surprised at the amount of POC who hype up white people for doing the simplest things like having basic human decency.

So going into 2022, I don’t wanna see any black people inviting white people to the “cookout” just because they said racism was bad.

And white people, stop expecting praise for doing the bare minimum. Congrats on believing that hating people due to their skin color is bad and congrats on not saying the n word???

(PS, there is no cookout. We lied.)

5. HYPING UP MEN FOR DOING THE BARE MINIMUM:

Staying on the topic of bare minimum praising, we have people who praise MEN for doing the bare minimum.

I see this all the time on social media and it gets sadder and sadder. No men should be praised for not being misogynistic or sexist, and no men should be praised for not assaulting women.

The bare minimum.

6. CELEBRITY/INFLUENCER BOXING MATCHES:

If you’re some of the people who were not aware of the disease that was influencer/celebrity boxing matches… I envy you.

I don’t know how this trend came to be, but 2021 brought us non-stop boxing matches between social media influencer and they were all BAD.

Cringe Fest! So, as we leave this year behind, let’s also leave behind these “boxing matches.”

7. ”ALPHA MALES”:

If I had a DOLLAR for every time I’ve heard the term “alpha male” in 2021… I would be in Dubai.

I’m sick and tired of it, and it needs to be laid to rest. Y’all are not wolves and y’all are not alphas.

Everywhere I look, whether it’s YouTube, TikTok, or Twitter, it’s nothing but:

  • ”How To Be An Alpha Male”

  • “Why Women Love Alpha Males”

  • “Alpha Males Do This…”

  • ”Alpha Males Don’t Do This…”

  • ”How To Stop Being A Beta Male And Become An Alpha”

That term is so dumb and honestly, borderline embarrassing and laughable because we have men who at their big age, living in their mom’s basement and all, unemployed and all, calling themselves “alpha males.”

And a lot of the time, the only requirements to being an “alpha male” is literally just being a misogynistic dude who believes that women are inferior to men, and if you’re not and or don’t believe this, then you’re a “beta male.”

So, going into 2022, imma need all these “alpha males,” to hang it up.

8. HARASSING SHAWN MENDES OVER HIS SEXUALITY:

The internet is weird, and you wanna know how I know this? It’s cause of Shawn Mendes.

Why is the internet so obsessed with this man’s sexuality? I thought it was all a good joke at first cause I really didn’t wanna believe that y’all really care this much over someone’s sexuality, but as time progressed, it’s gotten worst.

The constant HARASSMENT that this man has faced is getting out of hand, and it needs to stop.

Leave this man alone. He has never said that he’s gay, so why is the internet constantly trying to slap a gay sticker on his chest?

9. PODCASTS:

I might even make an entire post just on this topic, but for now, I’ll address it here.

Podcasts need to go. It’s 2021 and for some reason, everyone got a podcast. You do not need a podcast just to say that you think Marvel is better than DC. Take that thought to Twitter.

This is the problem with podcast. There’s too many unnecessary ones. These podcasters are bringing nothing to the table. They’re saying the same things everyone else is saying, and it’s getting boring.

And don’t even get me started on the alpha males, and male dating coaches on podcasts.

I‘ve said it before and I’ll say it again, there would be A LOT less podcasts in the world if more people just went to therapy, so going into 2021, let’s leave behind the podcast pandemic, and bring in therapy sessions and journaling.

10. JADA AND WILL SMITH:

They talk too much. Simple as that. All throughout 2021, I saw articles after articles about this couple and I’m tired of it.

Everything that I‘ve learned about these people in 2021, has been against my will. The ”entanglement” in 2020 was bad enough, but no. They didn’t stop there.

  • I did not need to know that Will Smith vomits after he orgasms

  • I did not need to know that they had sex multiple times a day for four months straight

  • I did not need to know that Will Smith was desperately trying to satisfy his wife and would die trying

  • I did not need to know how jealous Will was over Jada’s relationship with the late Tupac Shakur

  • I did not need to know that they had an open marriage

Somethings are better left private, and going into 2022, I pray Will and Jada learn this.

11. KHLOE KARDASHIAN & TRISTAN THOMPSON:

The ongoing saga that is Khloe Kardashian and Tristan Thompson’s relationship needs to be laid to rest come 2022.

The man will continue to embarrass her every time she takes him back, and quite frankly, it doesn’t need to be national news.

It’s come to the point where people expect Tristan to cheat, and when he hasn’t in a long time, who knows, it’s probably a sign of an alien invasion happening soon.

Their whole relationship is just messy and reporting about it needs to be left in 2021.

12. CELEBRITY MAKEUP AND SKINCARE LINES:

Image by Leah Bourine via Glamour I’ll probably make a whole separate post on just this topic alone at some point, but similar to podcast, celebrity skincare and makeup lines are becoming redundant.

Every celebrity seems to have one these days and most of them are cheap drug store products with a $60 price tag on them, just ‘cause it has a celebrity’s name on it.

Even celebrities who have no business having a skincare and makeup line have one. And I use the term “business“ loosely, but what I mean is celebrities who you don’t think of when you think of makeup and skincare.

For example, Ariana Grande, Hailey Bieber, Millie Bobby Brown, heck even Kanye West is coming out with a makeup line.

Not every celebrity needs a makeup or skincare line and going into 2022, I don‘t wanna see them anymore.

I would have added a lot more than 12, but unnecessarily long content was one of the things I had on my notes for this post, so I had to keep it a decent length.

Comment below things that you believe need to be left in 2021, and most importantly, HAPPY NEW YEAR!
