It’s award season and y’all know what that means… the Grammys. Scheduled on January 31, 2022, the nominations for the 2022 Grammys were revealed by the Recording Academy in November of 2021, and of course, the internet had some thoughts.
The Grammys (like most award shows) have been very controversial over who they nominate and who they hand the trophies to, and this years is no different.
After looking over the complete list of nomination, in today’s post, I’m gonna go through the major categories, and five my predictions on what I believe the outcomes will be, beginning with:
RECORD OF THE YEAR:
Image by Morgan Enos via Grammys
Nominations:
”I Still Have Faith In You” — ABBA
”Freedom” — Jon Batiste
”I Get A Kick Out Of You” — Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga
“Peaches” — Justin Bieber ft. Daniel Caesar and Giveon
“Right On Time” — Brandi Carlile
“Kiss Me More” — Doha Cat ft. SZA
”Happier Than Ever” — Billie Eilish
”Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” — Lil Nas X
”Drivers License“ — Olivia Rodrigo
”Leave The Door Open” — Silk Sonic
My Prediction: “Happier Than Ever” — Billie Eilish
Now, I’m gonna come right out and say it, I’m not the biggest fan of Billie Eilish’s music and to be honest, I’d rather ”Montero” take home the win, however, my guess is that the win will be handed to Billie.
The song wasn’t bad and neither was the production, and it was one of the biggest songs of the year.
I see Billie taking home this win.
SONG OF THE YEAR:

Nominations:
”Bab Habits” — Ed Sheeran
“A Beautiful Noise” — Alicia Keys ft. Brandi Carlile
”Drivers License” — Olivia Rodrigo
”Fight For You” — H.E.R.
”Happier Than Ever” — Billie Eilish
”Kiss Me More” — Doja Cat ft. SZA
”Leave The Door Open” — Silk Sonic
”Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” — Lil Nas X
”Peaches” — Justin Bieber ft. Daniel Caesar and Giveon
”Right On Time” — Brandi Carlile
My Prediction: “Drivers License” — Olivia Rodrigo
It would be the biggest award show disappointment of the YEAR if this win doesn’t go to Olivia Rodrigo. Drivers License is simply SOTA and nobody can say otherwise.
You can not like the song all you want, but let’s not pretend as though it wasn’t the biggest song of the year. Olivia absolutely deserves this win, and my bet is on her.
ALBUM OF THE YEAR:

Nominations:
We Are — Jon Batiste
Love For Sale — Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga
Justice — Justin Bieber
Planet Her — Doja Cat
Happier Than Ever — Billie Eilish
Back Of My Mind — H.E.R.
Montero — Lil Nas X
Sour — Olivia Rodrigo
Evermore — Taylor Swift
Donda — Kanye West
My Prediction: Planet Her, Happier Than Ever, or Sour
Out of all the nominations in this category, these three are the ones I’d say have the biggest changes of winning.
Justice is definitely not gonna win (it’s embarrassing that it’s even nominated) and the same goes for Donda, We Are, Love For Sale, and Back Of My Mind.
As for Evermore, I would add it to the list, but because Taylor already win for AOTY last year, I don’t think the Grammys will give it to her again this year.
Personally, I would love if Doja Cat took home the win for “Planet Her” because it was MY AOTY, but “Sour” and “Happier Than Ever” are definitely gonna be competition. Ultimately, I can’t choose between either of these three but one of them will definitely take home the win.
BEST NEW ARTIST:

Nominations:
Arooj Aftab
Jimmie Allen
Baby Keem
FINNEAS
Glass Animals
Japanese Breakfast
The Kid Laroi
Arlo Parks
Olivia Rodrigo
Saweetie
My Prediction: Olivia Rodrigo
I’m not even gonna pretend that I know who half of these people are, but it doesn’t even matter cause we all know miss Olivia Rodrigo is gonna take home the win.
Sis came out of nowhere and dominated music and if you say that she doesn’t deserve the Grammy for Best New Artist, you a hater.
BEST POP VOCAL ALBUM:
Image by Taylor Weatherby via Grammys
Nominations:
Justice — Justin Bieber
Planet Her — Doja Cat
Happier Than Ever — Billie Eilish
Positions — Ariana Grande
Sour — Olivia Rodrigo
My Prediction: Positions — Ariana Grande
(I don’t even know what Justice is doing on this list so I’m just gonna ignore it.)
Now, when it comes to vocals, ain’t nobody on this list touching miss Ariana Grande, so I expect her to take home this win.
Whether or not you think Positions was a good album to listen to (I personally enjoyed it), we not gon sit here and act like Ariana wasn’t serving us vocals.
Out of all the other nomination, Positions just stands out to me when it comes to vocal abilities, so it would be a crime if the Grammys didn’t give Ariana this win.
BEST POP SOLO PERFORMANCE:

Nominations:
”Anyone” — Justin Bieber
”Right On Time” — Brandi Carlile
”Happier Than Ever” — Billie Eilish
”Positions” — Ariana Grande
”Drivers License“ — Olivia Rodrigo
My Prediction: ”Happier Than Ever” — Billie Eilish
(I still don’t know what Justin Bieber is doing here.)
Now, even though ”Drivers License” was the bigger track, one thing’s for sure: the Grammys love them some Billie Eilish, and for this reason alone, I think she’s gonna win in this category.
I honestly can’t see anyone else besides maybe Olivia taking home this win, but even then, I don’t think the Grammys will wanna repeat history and hand one single artist all the wins in the major categories like they did to Billie in the 2020 Grammys.
BEST RAP ALBUM:
Image via Grammys
Nominations:
The Off-Season — J. Cole
Certified Lover Boy — Drake
King’s Disease II — Nas
Call Me If You Get Lost — Tyler, the Creator
Donda — Kanye West
My Prediction: Call Me If You Get Lost — Tyler, the Creator
I honestly believe that Call Me If You Get Lost is the best album in this entire category, so my bet is on it.
However, we know that the Grammys have a reputation of putting popularity over actual talent, which low key scares me cause I really don’t want Donda or Certified Lover Boy to win.
I think that Tyler, the Creator will take home the win, but if he doesn’t, fingers crossed it’s not Drake or Kanye.
BEST RAP SONG:
Image by Jathan Campbell via Grammys
Nominations:
”Bath Salts” — DMX, Jay-Z, Nas
”Best Friend“ — Saweetie, Doja Cat
”Family Ties” — Baby Keem, Kendrick Lamar
”Jail” — Kanye West, Jay-Z
”My Life” — J. Cole, 21 Savage, Morray
My Prediction: “Family Ties” — Kendrick Lamar & Baby Keem
I’m honestly very surprised that “Best Friends” even made it on this list because to be honest, the song wasn’t even that good.
It was very generic and weak and with Saweetie’s nonexisting rap skills, the song was even worst.
I see Kendrick and J. Cole battling it out in this category, but if I had to chose, I’m going with Kendrick.
BEST POP DUO OR GROUO PERFORMANCE:
Image by BrooklynVegan Staff via BrooklynVegan
Nominations:
“I Get A Kick Out Of You” — Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga
”Lonely” — Justin Bieber & benny blanco
”Butter” — BTS
”High Power” — Coldplay
”Kiss Me More” — Doja Cat ft. SZA
My Prediction: “I Get A Kick Our Of You” — Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga
Now, at first glance, I would I chosen “Butter” by BTS just ‘cause of its popularity, but then again, how many times have the Grammys robbed BTS?
Also, a lot of people don’t know that the Grammys love Tony Bennett. The man has 20 Grammys to his name already. 20!!! And on top of that, it’s Lady Gaga. And on top of that, the song is actually good.
”I Get A Kick Out Of You” hands down needs to win.
BEST RAP PERFORMANCE:
Image by Jim Beaugez via Grammys
Nominations:
“Family Ties” — Baby Keem & Kendrick Lamar
“Up” — Cardi B
”My Life” — J. Cole, 21 Savage & Morray
”Way Too Sexy” — Drake, Future, Young Thug
”Thot Shit” — Megan Thee Stallion
My Prediction: “Family Ties” — Baby Keem & Kendrick Lamar
Again, imma have to give this one to “Family Ties” ‘cause quite frankly, every other track on this list is pretty weak.
”Up” was on of Cardi’a weak tracks, “Way Too Sexy” was god awful and “Thot Shit” was also a weak track by Megan.
Though just because it’s Drake, I wouldn’t be surprised if he won, but I’m rooting for “Family Ties.”
BEST R&B PERFORMANCE:
Image via Grammys
Nominations:
”Lost You” — Snoh Aalegra
“Peaches” — Justin Bieber ft. Daniel Caesar & Giveon
”Damage” — H.E.R.
”Leave The Door Open” — Silk Sonic
”Pick Up Your Feelings” — Jazmine Sullivan
My Prediction: “Leave The Door Open” — Silk Sonic
It came down to Silk Sonic and Jazmine Sullivan but ultimately, imma have to go with Silk Sonic ’cause I wanna manifest some Grammys for them.
Love my girl Jazmine and I’m so glad she’s finally getting her recognition, but I’m sorry, I want Silk Sonic to take this one and I think they will.
BEST R&B SONG:
Image via Los Angeles Times
Nominations:
“Danger” — H.E.R.
”Good Days” — SZA
”Heartbreak Anniversary“ — Giveon
”Leave The Door Open” — Silk Sonic
”Pick Up Your Feelings” — Jazmine Sullivan
My Prediction: “Good Days” — SZA or “Leave The Door Open” — Silk Sonic
Okay okay okay, I couldn’t pick. Both these songs were on the forefront of R&B when they released, so I can see either one of them taking home the Grammy.
I personally perfer “Good Days” so I’m leaning more towards it, even more so because the Grammys have continuously snobbed SZA, so I’m hoping that she gets the win, but I can also see it going to Silk Sonic.
BEST R&B ALBUM:
Image by Taylor Weatherby via Grammys
Nominations:
Temporary Highs In The Violet Skies— Snoh Aalegra
We Are — Jon Batiste
Gold-Diggers Sound — Leon Bridges
Back Of My Mind — H.E.R.
Heaux Tales — Jazmine Sullivan
My Prediction: “Heaux Tales” — Jazmine Sullivan
Heaux Tales is by far the best album in this category, so if it doesn’t win, we gon have a problem.
Jazmine absolutely deserves this win because the only other person I can see getting it is H.E.R., but even then, her album wasn’t my favorite.
I’m going into this year’s Grammys with very, VERY low expectations because the Grammys have always disappointed me one way or another.
Even though I told myself I wasn’t gonna tune in for this year’s, who was I kidding? Of course I’m gonna tune in.
I’m preparing myself for the chaotic aftermath all over social media over who won and who didn’t because we know it’s gonna happen, but all that aside, I love award season and I’m looking forward to the 2022 Grammy Awards.
